Although i-Ready is expensive, it provides valuable differentiated instruction through student-paced lessons at each child’s level. As an upper elementary teacher, I appreciate that it addresses phonics and other foundational skills that receive less attention in the upper grades. Students also seem to really enjoy the stories. The program offers practice in phonics, vocabulary, and reading comprehension, although its language and grammar components are limited. The assessments provide useful information about students’ strengths and areas for growth, helping guide instruction. The reports are also helpful during parent conferences because they provide a clear picture of each child’s progress and needs.
